LISTEN TO THE ALBUM
Sandpaintings for Piano is a sixteen-movement solo piano cycle inspired by the artistic principles and structural design of traditional Diné sandpaintings. Organized around the four sacred directions, musical ideas transform through inversion, retrograde, and reflection before returning to their original form in the North.
Drawing on ideas of symmetry, transformation, and balance while respectfully avoiding imagery reserved for ceremonial contexts, the cycle reimagines these principles through a contemporary musical language.
